Ricoh Ireland donates managed print solution to FoodCloud

  • Donation to FoodCloud worth €30,000
  • Managed print service will assist FoodCloud in helping charities throughout Ireland
  • FoodCloud works with more than 3,600 charity and community partners and has redistributed 20 million meals since being founded in 2013
Dublin, 18 August 2017 – Ricoh Ireland today announces that it has donated and implemented a managed print and document solution to FoodCloud across three offices in Dublin, Galway and Cork. FoodCloud is an organisation that aims to provide a socially responsible, environmentally sensitive and business-friendly alternative to wasting food. This initial donation to FoodCloud from Ricoh Ireland is worth in excess of €30,000.
FoodCloud is a social enterprise which takes the problem of food waste from supermarkets and food producers and turns it into an environmentally sound solution by donating surplus food to over 3,600 charities and community partners before it becomes waste. The organisation is growing rapidly and now redistributes more than 20 million meals from almost 2,000 businesses across Ireland and the UK since it was established in 2013.

To fulfil its growing commitments, FoodCloud developed its own app which connects supermarkets such as Tesco and Aldi to charities around Ireland. Supermarkets can upload information regarding surplus foods to the app, which then sends out a message to charities that the food is available for collection at their stores.

Ricoh has installed three multifunctional print devices in FoodCloud’s offices and distribution centres in Dublin, Cork and Galway. They will play a vital role in allowing the social enterprise to assist local charities every week in drawing down from bulk food supplies to help people in need throughout the country. Ricoh is providing proactive support and management of the print infrastructure.

In addition to the managed print service, Ricoh has also donated a suite of office furniture to FoodCloud, and arranged for it to be installed at the enterprise’s headquarters in Broomhill Business Park, Tallaght.

Aoibheann O’Brien, general manager, FoodCloud, said, “We are truly grateful to Ricoh Ireland for their donation of three advanced multifunctional printers and their managed print service, as well as the suite of office furniture. Printers are an invaluable cog in our operation as they allow us to seamlessly produce documentation which is essential for delivering food quickly and cost-effectively to our charity partners.  This advanced print technology will enable us to carry out this much-needed service even more effectively than before, while the ongoing managed print service from Ricoh ensures great business continuity and peace of mind.”

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that over 1 million tonnes of food waste per year is generated in Ireland. FoodCloud’s approach to find an environmentally sound solution to help solve the issue of food poverty appealed to Ricoh’s sustainability ethos.

Robert Viljoen, business development manager, Ricoh Ireland, said, “This partnership with the FoodCloud is a perfect fit with our strategy of working with organisations involved in environmental conservation and community investment. We particularly like to focus on re-use initiatives which means there’s zero waste to landfill and products are actually used for their original purposes.

“We have been hugely impressed by FoodCloud’s unique ability to help businesses redistribute surplus food to people who really need it. Ricoh Ireland is focused on helping people to communicate and collaborate better, and we’re delighted to play our part as FoodCloud continues to grow and make such a positive and worthwhile contribution to local communities.”
